The Mission of the Montana Museum of Art & Culture (MMAC) at The University of Montana is to actively engage our diverse public in the appreciation of arts and culture through exceptional collection stewardship and compelling exhibitions and programs that educate and enrich.

MMAC hosts one of the Rocky Mountain Northwest's oldest and most prominent collections of art and artifacts. The Permanent Collection, which was founded in 1894, now includes over 10,000 original works.

Ranging from historical to regional to contemporary, this Montana treasure includes incredible pieces by diverse artists. MMAC has work by Rembrandt Van Rijn, Virgilio Narcisso Díaz de la Peña, Honoré Daumier, Eugene Delacroix, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Käthe Kollwitz, Patrick Caulfield, R.B. Kitaj, Edgar Paxson, Frederic Remington, Ralph DeCamp, William Standing, Julius Seyler, John Fery, William Merritt Chase, Joseph Henry Sharp, Alfred Maurer, Fra Dana, Norman Rockwell, Rockwell Kent, Robert Motherwell, Larry Rivers, Edward Ruscha, Max Pechstein, Peter Phillips, Theodore Stamos, and Andy Warhol, among others.

The Museum hosts 7-8 exhibits annually, which include selections from its permanent holdings and invitational and traveling exhibitions. Upcoming exhibitions for 2010 - 2011 include:

A portion of the Permanent Collection is on view year round in various campus buildings and as outdoor sculpture. A map of campus-based and public art is available for self-guided tours. Public art on campus includes Charging Forward by Blackfeet artist Jay Laber; Grizz by Rudy Autio; and Teepee Burner by John Vichoreck.

Museum programming includes evening gallery talks, classes, and exhibition tours. MMAC offers internships that provide students with comprehensive, hands-on experience in museum programs and operations. The museum has available for purchase a variety of exhibition catalogs, and limited edition off-set lithograph prints of several works in the Permanent Collection.
